Staying Consistent Through Unexpected Shifts
Change of Seasons, Change of Plans
Wherever you are in the world, I hope this finds you well!
As we transition into a new season—whether fall in the Northern Hemisphere or spring in the Southern Hemisphere—nature reminds me of our ability to adapt to changing environments.
At least we have time to prepare for our seasonal changes, unlike shifts we experience in our energy levels, interests, and focus. Those can occur when we least expect it.
I recently experienced an unexpected change in my routine, which disrupted my publishing streak for a couple of weeks.
I know about shiny object syndrome, but this was more about changing direction because I thought of a better topic to write about. This required new research and more time to absorb the information.
Since my current workflow is still developing, I don’t have a backlog of articles ready to publish. I tend to go with the flow, making it easy to break my consistency streak.
Pivoting can feel like a setback, but sometimes, taking a few steps back leads to growth.
One of my downfalls is thinking of consistency as a straight line. In reality, progress is messy and iterative. There will be detours we don’t anticipate. It's easy to get frustrated when we miss deadlines or fail to meet our intentions, leading us to want to give up.
But consistency is about staying committed through those detours and not giving up even when there’s a break in our streak.
If you've strayed or encountered a setback, don't hesitate to reach out.
I find connecting with someone or being part of a group that understands the challenges of setbacks has been the fastest way to regain focus. Just hearing a few words of encouragement is all we need to realign our perspective.
I'm still navigating my detour, but I’m slowly reconnecting it back to the original path I had in place, starting with this week’s articles:
- My latest article: Why Coaching Models Don’t Work for Me, - uses an experimental approach as an option for those who struggle to stick to traditional coaching models.
- An article I enjoyed: Unleashing the Magic Behind Successful Ideas from Jon Soto - Deep Thinkers discusses finding your purpose through trial and error.
- I found this thanks to Moon Arica's - Dare to Fail ‘KISS Friday’ newsletter.
That’s it for now.
No matter how your season unfolds, I hope you find the strength to stay consistent through the transitions.
Until next week,
-Mili
PS Before I leave for the week, I'm genuinely interested in hearing about your challenges in staying consistent with your goals or intentions.
